Elizabeth Town
GENERAL INFORMATION
A small community on the Bass Highway 10 Km north of Deloraine. A favourite
resting place for travellers to the north west. Mixed farming is carried
out in the district. It is reported that the name 'Elizabeth' honoured Governor Macquarie's
wife, and that it had been planned to provide the name to what is now known as New Norfolk. However, for various reasons, this did not happen.
Whilst visiting Elizabeth Town, why not visit Ashgrove Farm Cheeses (see picture on the left), where you will be able to sample and purchase a wide range of uniquely Tasmanian cheeses.
